I've always heard that the body burns more calories in cooler temperature, because it is trying to warm your muscles up.

There are numerous studies that show you burn more calories in the heat. One of the reasons is because the heart has to pump more blood to keep the body temperature down.

That's true if you are sitting still. Your body shakes and all that. But if you are working out your body doesn't know the difference.
