You say what Asik does well doesn't show up on the stat sheet? What about the bad things he does that don't turn up on the stat sheet?
Dropped passes that lead to lost possessions, fumbled balls out of bounds or right into the defenders hands, and rim rejections. Besides actual TO's that SHOW UP on the stat sheet, these 3 things that I mentioned happened Every. Single. Game. this season and DID NOT appear at the stat sheet.
When Asik gets the ball in the post, it's a TO, what is the opportunity cost here? 14 other players that could get a shot besides Asik is a huge opportunity cost of the offensive end. This situation will only happen though if Asik somehow catches the ball. When he fumbles the ball out of bounds, into the defense, or when it deflects off his hands, it DOES NOT appear on the stat sheet, bc if it did Asik would average over 5 TOs a game and less than 8 points.
Asik does not have full possession in these instances so you can't statistically give him a TO.

The argument for Asik having a low TO rate is one of the worst that can be made bc that's by far his worst flaw on offense, is turning the ball over and opportunity cost lost.

These do show up in the stat sheets, though

Even if they don't get charged to Asik they get charged to someone. How is Asik destroying our offense with turnovers when we were a top 5 turnover team most of the year ended up 6th? Yes it's a weakness of his, but it's a weakness the team can absorb. Believe it or not, the Pels were 25th in turnovers the year before Asik arrived. We also improved in ORtg from 13th in 13-14 to 9th last season, yet Asik and his fumbly hands and blocked shots are some offense crushing liability.

I wanted a one year deal to keep our options open because I do think our money can be put to better use long term, but the level of hate he gets is over the top. This isn't like Gordon or Peja, max deals for players not playing, it's not even like Okafor, max deal for an average and declining player, Asik is getting paid like the 18th best center in the league. A little above his station perhaps, but Koufos' $8 per year is probably as low as you're likely to get in the new economy for comparable talent not on a rookie deal. So it's at most a $3 million per year overpay. Would it be nice to upgrade him? Absolutely. But people need to stop acting like he's what's wrong with this team.
