You would still play every team once plus multiple teams in your division more than once. That puts you over 40 games right there without even thinking about it from march until mid october and multiple matches a week won't work unless the depth of the league is improved big time. Then factor in the playoffs with a larger field.
Its just not sustainable for the sport when you also have World Cups and other international tournaments going on.

You don't have to play every team. The only USA sport that I think does play every team is NBA.
With the addition of new teams, it will obviously improve viewership. I'm sure MLS will get a huge boost in ratings just for bringing in the Atlanta market. Do that for another 8 big markets and you'll see the MLS footprint really start expanding.
