Yea I don't think the state income tax thing is THAT big of a deal. It's a factor, but I think it's overstated.
Especially for superstars who already will be making a shitload of money in contracts and endorsements. Going to the best situation team wise >>>>>>>>>>> state income tax considerations. The money and exposure to be made from getting to/winning the finals is going to dwarf state income tax savings.
Now if we're talking about a near-retirement vet who has 2 or 3 years left in the tank, then that might be a bigger factor.

Look at Lebron his first stint in CLE, couldn't get anyone to go to CLE to play with him until he WON a championship in Miami and returned to Cleveland. OKC couldn't land Gasol last year with 2 top 5 players, he preferred to go to a bigger market/city.
