I have a Visa Amazon rewards card that I get 3% back on Amazon purchases (also 2% gas and restaurants)

Have that also, but it just took a backseat to some new cards. I now have that, 2 rotating categories cards (chase freedom is 5% on gas this quarter, and some Citi card I signed up for to get a free buffet at Gatti's Pizza when I was a freshman @ LSU), and a Citi Double cash card that's 2% on everything no limits. Also a Best Buy card that's 5-6% on purchases at best buy, which is great if you are all about dropping an unnecessary amount of dough at that place.

Does that Amex card have a strict list of what qualifies as a grocery store besides no walmart/target? Would a local place like Rouses qualify? That gift card idea is fantastic

Rouses qualified as grocery for me

Actually, even the Walmart neighborhood market rings up as grocery on my amex

It doesn't have to be a big name store, just has to be coded as a grocery store

The fruit stand by my house doesn't qualify, but I never spend more than 10-15 bucks there anyway
