I actually switched to the Penfed card for my gas purchases


It's 5% CB and its a visa so it's accepted at racetrac, unlike amex


I did, however, just join Costco, so I've been purchasing some gas there on my amex BCP

Thanks guys, looks like the Preferred card is the preferred way to go with AMEX.

Interesting. I have a Visa Amazon rewards card that I get 3% back on Amazon purchases (also 2% gas and restaurants). Seems like the smart play is just buy Amazon gift cards with the BCP at grocery stores then look into a card like the Penfed for gas.
