i'd imagine structured eating and minimal snacking also is a major issue for their lack of obesity. snacking is terrible, esp in our system today with the snacks offered

That's as big as anything. Their snacks are much healthier.
Also, 5 small meals instead of 3 big meals speeds up your metabolism.
But the key element for them is portion control. They literally don't even have the big plates (like physical plates) that Americans do. Its a completely different mindset. Soft drinks are even smaller in machines (and have fruit drink options).
I would scarf my food down and still be hungry, but then got into an eating rhythm of pacing myself and giving my body time to get full before the next course. They'll have 5 or 6 courses sometimes at dinner that are all very small.

1. The structuring is what does it. ADHD can be managed or not even noticed if the child has a very strict routine. My brother and 2 of my cousins have ADHD but my dad was a pharmacist and with our family's history of heart disease and the fact my brother was a premature birth my dad did not want to put my brother on Ridalin at such a young age. My parents made my brother and me have very rigid routine growing up and my brother made A & Bs in school and I made all As. He started losing the fight to ADHD when he was in 10th grade, but because of the routine he still made B and Cs in high school and graduated college. One of my cousins' parents were took the opposite approach and let my cousin run free and he made straight Cs and Ds until they put him on ridalin and then adderall where he started making Cs and Bs. My younger cousin has it as well and his parents put him on the same strict strucute my and my brother were on and he made all As until 8th grade where the ADHD started kicking his arse. His dad is an MD so he got him put on adderall when he started failing classes even with the study habits and he started making As and Bs. So IMO from personal experience and research that I have read it structure is really important and will help alleviate some of the effects.
2. ADHD is real but it is overdiagnosed. American parent's are too quick to overreact when little Johnny or Jane is not the best in his/her class. They are also lazy and would rather just give Johnny or Jane a pill everyday instead of the added discipline and structure. God forbid they take time away from the new season of American Horror Story or facebook to make their kids do there homework (not talking about all American parents here just the ones the medicate first parent later ones).

how much you wanna bet the real reason the frenchi kids don't get dosed is because the wine they drink helps knock them out before their parents do..
