Sounds like they've told him he'd most likely have a reduced role. Either that or maybe they're trying to transition him into coaching? Please, please sign. I understand him wanting to play week in and week out, but having him stay around would be great for the locker room. It would be great for the young guys. Please sign, John.

He's waiting to sign because he wants to check out the WAGS of new signees before committing.
