I hate how people compare the situations, because they aren't comparable. Younger Colston, deep threat Devery, do it all Lance Moore. We haven't been able to replace or replicate the roles of these players.

First off, what else could you possibly call looking at one era of stats vs another that is anything but a synonym for "comparing"....

At no point did I say "everything will go back to exactly how it was before now because Jimmy is gone!"

Its simply perspective of how we utilized multiple tight ends before we had a superstar. Everyone is concerned one way or the other about who will step up, who has to dominate targets etc etc, yet numbers in the past in terms of TIGHT END targets, receptions, and yards were extremely similar with the likes of names like Billy Martin, Eric Johnson, or even Mark Campbell.

And yeah, we haven't been able to replicate many of the roles you mentioned yet, but this is also the first time we are actually seeing whether or not we have replaced certain aspects. It's too early to say.

We have at least one serious receiving threat out of the backfield . Who knows what could happen with our 7th rounder....

Colston isn't young anymore sure, but we have two guys in Jones and Coleman that have similar builds at least. Coleman being 2 inches taller. A vet in Toon who at least showed promise at year's end.

We definitely have a legit deep threat in a guy like Cooks if we choose to use him in that role more often, with way better hands than Devery. Same with Morgan if he grows up.

"do it all" Lance Moore was a practice squad guy year one, NFL Europe for half of year 2, and started 4 games year 3 before breaking into the lineup seriously in year 4.

We don't know what we have, so what is wrong with getting perspective on how we achieved success in different ways and hoping that the trend can continue given the same coach and qb?
