I don't understand this. We need as much help as we can get on the attacking front. I know he's not been good lately, but at least it gives us a tiny bit of depth. If we don't bring in another attacker, I'll be disappointed. So I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be disappointed.

Need 2 of them. An all star level striker and a super sub. Hopefully this loss motivates the club.

Martial coming in it looks like.

Also apparently Januzaj to Dortmund on loan.

Cillisen rumors picking up as well.

Does anyone know much about Martial? Any substance to the Adebayor rumors?

Wonder if this was the "surprise" signing LvG alluded to earlier.

Surely, if we're letting Chich and Januzaj leave now, we have someone besides Martial coming in. Right...?

I can't imagine any realm where this is an actual possibility

OL let him go due to his work ethic. Of course, he was about 17 at the time.

This season is making me sad already. Our striker options now are Rooney, Martial, James Wilson and Fellaini I guess. Januzaj is apparently gone so I guess Herrera is the official new #10 which is fine but I think Rooney can also do a job there if we were to sign a big name striker.

Keeper is a disaster as well.

Someone in transfer thread mentioned it was a loan with option to buy, but I've only seen it as a season-long loan...

What I don't get is we slow-played the frick out of the Pedro deal, seemingly because LvG was convinced in the options already at our disposal (i.e. Januzaj, Chicharito). Then, we let Chelsea swoop for Pedro, and later ship out Chich and Januzaj. It's no making sense, man.

Martial is supposedly full of promise but is only 19 and has no Prem experience. LvG hasn't shown much trust in Wilson so far this year. Just have to wonder about some of these moves if there is no surprise before window closes.

Apparently Wilson may be going to WBA on loan too.

Getting thinner and thinner at striker.

Why Januzaj at Dortmund? They have far more in attack than United does right now. :-/

I think their playing time would be about equal.

GREAT article from Neville. Sums up everything, really.

quote:

They play football – and have done for 12-18 months – at 1-0 and 0-0 like they're winning 4-0," he added.

"It's not quick enough. They play really well, are dominating the game, have 65 per cent possession, have more shots but you have to score goals to capitalise on the football you're playing.

quote:

They haven't got enough cutting edge. They haven't got players who can beat men in the final third, they don't create enough. They get lulled into thinking they're playing football really well.

"They dominate possession but they don't dominate the match. You dominate the match by scoring goals and playing at a high tempo. Win the game and then control possession.

"They play controlled possession before winning the game and that's the issue at the moment. It's OK if you win 1-0, you look like a really good team. But if a team get a goal back and you lose 2-1, that's a problem."

I think those two quotes say A LOT about Van Gaal's system. He's been succesful in the past so obviously at this point he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but we need to improve or we will be in a close fight for champion's league again.
