I have good people who work for me. They can make many decisions for themselves and know I'll support them as long as their reasoning is good. If I'm away from work and they need to call me, it better be an important issue. I do leave my phone on all the time but I get an off-hour call very rarely (quarterly maybe).

I check email all the time but very little of it needs an immediate response.

Text messages are efficient. That's usually how I know of a problem.

When I was further down the food chain, I couldn't disconnect. It's nice being the king.

I have good people too. I've hired people way smarter than I am. And I used to trust them more. Of late, I've been getting into their business too much trying to manage with the details finding stupid things to ding them on. I'm annoying myself more than them actually. A lot of the crap I try to stay on top of after hours or weekends doesn't actually deserve my attention. It's weird and not my style.
