Ironically, Seaside and Seagrove are the two communities on 30A that are considered lower tier compared to some others. Watercolor, Watersound, North Seacrest, Alys Beach and Rosemary are where the more affluent families tend to stay or own these days. But Seaside and Seagrove are still a good step above anything else in a 50 mile stretch. Seaside is just to damn congested. Still nice but to many freaking bikes and people in such a small area. We stayed in Watercolor a few times but have settled in the last two years in Rosemary. Just like the village set up there better.

A lot of families prefer sea grove just based on the rentals being o. the actual beach, which is much quieter and easier depending on the family. We would always go to seaside with 3-5 other baton rouge families and our parents never had to worry about keeping us entertained. Staying a mile down the beach from seaside/water colors wouldn't have allowed such an option.
You are right though, seaside was nothing like it is now when we used to go there. Our family always went during Mardi Gras break so as my siblings and I became older, the trips started to die down. I think one of our final years in Seaside was when they began breaking ground for water colors
