I'd say that's a pretty fair representation of popularity as well.

I do believe NERev are more popular than the list shows, but everything else looks about right. Would have expected Seattle to be slightly higher.

This is some dailymail type research using Twitter to say who is the most popular club.

It's all down to marketing and all the clubs with big name DP's have more followers.

NYCFC's twitter has been boosted by Man City's twitter in a big way. If NYRB could get similar support from Redbull, Leipzig RB, Redbull Salzburg, Red Bull Brasil, etc.

I expected small markets at the bottom and big markets at the top. But, Chicago near the bottom is ridiculous.

City might have shitty support but the Red Bull clubs in Europe have almost none in general.

I've never looked at it but, judging by the comments of the new firm AS Roma just hired, Man City's seems to be exemplary.

NYCFC is also aided by marketing to Yankees fans and the hipster throngs in Brooklyn that never really cared much about the New Jersey based NYRB.

Every MLS team had a rise in attendance last year except one

United and TFC saw over a 20% rise.

Is that not a legitimate excuse? I'm not following anything Atlanta related until the official account goes online.

I'm sure very well when considering league averages. However, MLS does have the advantage of only being located in huge cities where most European leagues have many clubs from cities no larger than Lafayette or Pensacola in their leagues during a given season.

Last time I looked it up, probably about 5 years ago, it was top 10 I think.
