The Police. Pretty innovative and their songs are still around. They were huge in their day.
However, I will say Nirvana topped them. They were not as prolific but definitely more influential. They almost single-handedly and completely changed the music scene and about killed the hair bands.
Rush is one of my favorite bands but I don't think they were as influential or as popular as the police or nirvana or even ZZ Top.
I'm counting bands that started after 75 or else I would put ELP on the list. Can't dismiss 7 platinum albums.
