We have basically maxed out our cap

It was already maxed out. Not having Asik doesn't give us any functional cap space. That was the entire point of trading for him.

Do you really want to sign him long to a 40-50 million dollar deal

I'm still undecided whether I want a 1 year overpay or a 4 year declining deal. With a 4/$40 declining, year's 3 and 4 are equivalent to around $6 million in today's cap dollars. Asik making backup money to be the 3rd big that we may not even see in certain match ups is a lot more appealing than Asik making starter money with a starter's role.

How does he fit in Gentry's uptempo Phoenix Suns offense?

He fit in Houston's fast paced offense just fine, in fact one of the Rockets fans that frequents here said he looks like a different player (in a bad way) with the Pelicans. But if he doesn't fit, that goes back to what I said before, you can argue that Mozgov or Koufos would have been better targets, but I don't think you can argue that playing last year and this coming year with a Stiemsma level center was the way to go. The decision of slow vs. fast rebuild has already been made, there's not much point in half assing it because fans are easily excited by draft picks.

All our commodities are known (except for AD, who keeps getting better). In my eyes, i'd rather players that have upside and potential to be great, than one superstar and a bunch of slightly above average players that have pretty much hit their ceilings and are collecting massive paychecks with little return.

Difference of opinion and philosophy I suppose.

Yep. I didn't watch too much of Houston then, but supposedly he was very good with the quick outlet pass after a defensive rebound. That's not a bad thing for a fast paced team.
