The whole "it's for my kid" thing is just to coverup the fact that he's never been committed and been in trouble with team rules in the past.
Even if he did do it solely for the kid, yes it would be inarguably stupid to take a risk like this (which the supplemental draft absolutely is) instead of staying a year, graduating and going into the draft.
He cost himself a lot of money and the scholarship to finish his degree. It's a shortsighted decision that's idiotic and has nothing to do with football.

Maybe you should factor in injuries into your thought process when talking about risks. You just sound mad.

What if he got hurt next fall and couldn't play again, and his shot at pro football was ended forever? Would it still be stupid?
At that point all he'd have to fall back on is a clemson education

I think you are missing the point. The kid was likely being kicked off the team and suspended for a number of games again. That's why he's leaving.
