shes bought it with her own money and I'm paying her back in cash. It's under her name but I can legally be in possession of a handgun I just can't buy it from a first hand dealer yet...I can goto a gun show and buy one but I don't want to do that. So like I say when I turn 21 in January I'll just get it transferred to my name. As far as I now it's all perfectly legal

Just edit your original post to say your grandma is getting it for you as a gift. If you don't have a record to where you couldn't buy this gun yourself (doesn't have to do with age in this case), then this is not a straw purchase. You only have to be 17 to possess a handgun in this state. That is, unless you're not in Louisiana.

This isn't necessary unless your state requires it. If you're in Louisiana or most states in the south, there is no registration, only a 4473 form for the background check.
