If you haven't done so, listen to some Roy Orbison

The man was a Master.
Consider the song below. At first it appears to be just another 'oldies' song. However, listen to how the song builds upon itself with a driven beat / vocal. Most of his songs are like this - starting slowly and then building at they go along. Incredible voice.
Dream Baby
Another later song that shows this same style. At the 2:00 mark it finds another gear:
You Got it
One other street cred point: Glenn Danzig once said the only other artists he would write songs for were Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash. Once both were gone he stated there was no one left he wanted to write for.

I know I'm in my early 20s, but I grew up listening to Roy Orbison. He was a fantastic singer.

Roy Orbison was a great. His voice had tremendous range. Most remember him for hit hit "Oh, Pretty Woman" but he had a lot of hits.
He recorded this with The Traveling Wilburys in 1988, the year he died at age 52. One of my favorites:
"Handle With Care"

I love Roy. And he maintained his unbelievable range right til the end. "In Dreams"

His version of "I Drove All Night" never fails to make me tear up. It captures the pining of long distance relationships perfectly.
