Would you guys recommend Yosemite or Tahoe if I only was able to spend a day and night either place? Going to a conference in SF next month and wanted to check the area out

Tahoe is pretty, but Yosemite is epic. Both super crowded in the summer. Get an early start.

If I only had a day I would do Mariposa grove in the morning, then hit the Glacier point trial from Taft point around to Sentinal Dome. Long day but amazing.

I went to Yosemite last week and was fairly disappointed after visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon the days before. The drought in Cali has really done a number on the waterfalls and they are rather lacking. It's also crowded as hell and their shuttle buses pretty much suck compared to all the other major parks I've been to. I've never been to Tahoe, but I'd suggest another year (and earlier in the year for better waterfall flow) for Yosemite.
