Nothing in that article suggests they knew they wanted to play with each other when they first met like you said. Mingo was passed out drunk, probably doesn't even remember it.

not exactly what I was looking for; maybe it was a combination of this article and an interview (where one of the two said something about after meeting they decided to play together). My memory is indeed fuzzy.
