as explained to me by a marathon refinery employee friend of mine:
Modern cracking(getting gasoline out of crude) gets much more gasoline out of a barrel of oil than years gone by...which in turn yields much less diesel(by product) now a days...so diesel supply suffers
there are a lot more diesels on the road now...so demand increase, decreases supply...and law of supply and demand dictates that you can command a higher price...
I bought my first diesel in 1994 when Diesel was 94cents a gallon...around 15-20 cents less than gasoline
depressing to say the least
