RODANTHE, NC (WBTV) - A second Outer Banks shark attack, in as many days, has been reported on a beach in Rodanthe, NC. This time the victim is a 17-year-old boy according to the National Park Service.
According to officials, he was swimming with several others when the shark bit him. He sustained serious injuries to his right calf, buttocks, and both hands.
He was reportedly treated on scene then taken by lifeflight to Norfolk, VA for further medical care.
No other swimmers were injured.
"This could very well be the same shark," one official told WBTV and adds that the same shark as Friday's attack could be circulating the area.
Friday, a Charlotte man was injured on an Avon, NC beach when beach goers say he was bitten in the back by a shark Friday morning. He suffered various injuries to his right leg and lower back and was being treated at Norfolk General Hospital in Virginia for his injuries. No other swimmers were injured Friday.
Shark attacks on North Carolina beaches have been in the news multiple times over the past a few weeks.
