If she's staying at home looking for entertainment then a true desktop is by far the best option. Seriously.

I love my Surface 3 for getting work done on client site ... in fact it is fantastic for that purpose. But right now I'm at home typing on my favorite keyboard hooked up to a regular desktop.

If I want mobility, sure, and iPad or Surface will be fine but I'm at home in my pajamas and don't need it.

You make a really good point with that. She will certainly be at home these four months, but I think she would like the mobility as time went on so that she can travel with it or take it on the bus when she goes back to work or whatever.

Are the specs on the surface pro 3 as strong as an actual desktop? Processing speed and what not. Again, not tech savvy so thanks for the patience with stupid questions.

Thread sidebar -- I used to do this same thing. Then I bought the docking station for my SP3, hooked up my keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc... and haven't booted up my desktop in 6 months. I keep my travel power cord and mouse in my computer bag. Only thing I have to pack when I travel is my USB thumb drive and the SP3.

As for OP -- Go with the iPad Mini. She'll be able to use it much easier while breast feeding/bottle feeding and it fits easier in a diaper bag. In my opinion, the SP3 is a much better device, but is probably not the best product for your intended use. (For reference, I'm the father of 4... been there, done that. iPad Mini is the way to go.)
