When BP drew this thing up, they could have easily restricted the economic loss zones to south LA, MS, coastal AL and TX only. They could have also wrote in a clause that required proving your business had a direct impact from the oil...but they didn't.

Instead, the zones included the entire states of LA, MS, and AL, plus coastal FL and TX. They only excluded moratoria and service industry (CPA's and Lawyers) from filing claims - literally anything else is/was fair game. I'm not saying it's right...I don't think some businesses should have filed claims...but I don't think they are wrong for trying. BP put the money and the settlement on the table, if you meet their qualifications and they have no basis to appeal your claim - then why not?

I could have gotten food stamps and welfare for years while in school. But you know what, I didn't. Again, just because one can be a leach, doesn't mean they should.

To the poster who explained the 10k dues, I agree with you. It appears you lost something of monetary value. Not just an inconvenience.

They did not exclude the professional service industry.
