Yes and I am somewhat concerned about it, as I have lived in areas with low costs of living(Jacksonville, Fort Worth, Las Vegas, Iowa)

Don't let people freak you out too much. It's actually not that bad. If you are renting, it's not bad at all, particularly in some of the areas of Seattle surrounding the main hub areas. Check out Wallingford and Fremont, or Phinney Ridge areas. They are really not that bad costwise and have a lot of things to do around there.
