You are guessing is correct. 2+2=4. What an employer cares about is this: How can I get the most work for the least amount of money out of this potential employee. Sorry to burst your bubble but that is the reality

Show me where the employer touched you, Joe. I haven't had an employer like that since I was 16.

Maybe for laborers. In most professional fields, "most work" isn't what the employer is looking for. They are looking for an individual that produces quality work, and if they have to pay more for an individual that produces quality work, then they will. Now, the school one attended is not the end all be all in determining the quality of work one might produce, but it is generally a pretty good indicator. This is why I am not nearly as sought after in my field as someone who graduated from an ivy league, or even Texas, Virginia, Vandy, etc.
