Never been to Europe. All I know about are the Louvre, The d'Orsay, the catacombs, and the tower. Going to be there 5 days. Help, please.

Went a few Augusts ago.. Moulin Rouge. There is also a lot of shopping if you're into that type of thing.

ETA: River cruise. Honestly I was in Paris for 3 days and saw the Eiffel Tower on 10 separate occasions. Avoid that if you can.

Agree. You don't want to see the Eiffel Tower if you go to Paris.

There is plenty to see in Paris that you shouldn't waste a majority of your trip seeing the Eiffel Tower 10 different times. Seeing it a couple times is fine (go to see it during the day then go on a night river cruise and see it light up at 10 (? it may do this on the hour))

Aside from the Louvre, Notre Dame, etc:

Go to Versailles.
Drink a lot of wine.
Take a day trip by train. Brussels, Lyon, Mont St. Michel, Normandy or overnight to Munich (and back again overnight).

I'll be there for 9 days starting on 6/4. If you resurface this, I can help report back.

Here is the pad we are renting. Right in Le Merais and very convenient to Metro 1.

Be prepared for lines long as frick at the Catacombs. Don't do all of the touristy stuff if you only have five days. You'll spend too much time in line.

If you have to go up the Eiffel Tower, you don't need to pay the exorbitant fee to go all the way to the top. The views from halfway up are nearly as good.

If you have to go to the Louvre, forget about the Mona Lisa unless you want to fight your way through hundreds of Asian tourists.

If you have to go to Versailles... in July, just don't.

Drink tons of wine. Even the house wine at restaurants is good.

Take a bottle, or three, of wine over to the Eiffel Tower at night and chill out on the Champ de Mars whilst drinking said wine.

If people approach you and try to tie strings on your arms, or tell you that you dropped a ring, ignore them and walk the other way.

Don't drive. Take the metro or walk. We only stay in the 7e so most stuff is central, but the metro will take you within a couple of blocks of anywhere you want to go, and it's fairly cheap.

Wander the neighborhoods. Drink and eat where the locals drink and eat. Costs less and the food is better.

Check out Montmartre. So many awesome shops and artists there below Sacre Coeur.

Know this, many of the hotels in Paris are not air conditioned. If I were going that time of the year I would make sure that mine is.

Used to live in France. Paris is a huge city with lots to do. Is there anything in particular you're interested in doing? Museums, shopping, etc?

You can easily spend 5 days walking through the louvre and musee d'orsay.

But if you just want a tour of Paris, I'd suggest: the louvre, stopping at trocadero to see the Eiffel Tower, having a picnic on the champ de mars(field in front of the tower), strolling down the champs élysées to see the arc de triomphe and lots of ither things along the street, Versailles, Montmartre, Luxembourg gardens, river cruise at night, shopping in the Marais, notre dame, place de la Concorde(the coolest metro stop in Paris), picnic in Tuilerie gardens(close to the louvre and just off rue champs élysées, scare coure(in Montmartre)... That should be enough for 5 days
