I'm the same way. Transferred from a larger out of state school as a junior and finished out at a Podunk one back in my home state. Sucked. And all 3-4 of my good friends are 2,500 miles away in paradise and I only see them maybe once a year. Then there's the same guys from HS hanging around and working at KMart. It's tough making good friends when you work a lot for a living

Eh, not really.

Most of my besties are married women. That actually makes it easier. No expectation for anything more than friendship since they're off the market. No pressure to spend a lot of time together since they're busy with kids, work, school, etc.
