My father just had surgery on both eyes for this due to floaters. One eye they had to attach his retina and the other was only partially torn.

Yep, this is the "serious medical condition" floater I wrote about earlier. Generally speaking, symptoms are the sudden appearance of several floaters accompanied by a strobe light sensation in the eye.

THIS OFTEN MEANS A DETACHED RETINA WHICH, IF NOT TREATED QUICKLY, CAN RESULT IN BLINDNESS.

A good friend of mine encountered this, but had surgery performed to reattach his retina. Post-op was a bitch--immobility for weeks--but his sight is now restored.
