need one for light duty around the yard. Should I spend the money on a Stihl, or go with a cheaper one?

I went with a cheap one from Harbor Freight for $80.00. Also had a 20% off coupon witch made it about $70 after Taxes. It work great I'd trim 4 trees with it.
Here's the LINK.

Stihl if you already have a combi system.

Echo if you don't.

Both are going to cost about the same For standalone units.

The last mechanical thing I bought from HF lasted about 20 seconds. No idea what happened. It went in the trash, and I spent the extra money for a good one after that.

Depends on how much you're going to use it.

1+ if you're going to use it very much.

Cheaper if you're only going to trim limbs on a few trees one time only. Of course, once you've trimmed the limbs, it will prolly be yrs before you need to trim them again.

I really like my Shindawa combi system, but they got bought out by Echo a few yrs ago.

I went with the echo multi attachment from Home Depot and I use the pole saw at the ranch and it works great!

Have the Stihl and it will work you if you're on it all day. It's nice for clearing shooting lanes but it's extremely heavy. Something lighter duty would probably be better for occasional use
