Hate to say it, but this is why I always buy cars from strangers unless I'm doing an in-and-out. Why should your boss get to make thousands of extra dollars because I don't want to negotiate against a friend? Conversely, my realtor made a shitload in terms of dollars per hour, but he did provide a valuable service advising on neighborhoods and was extremely aggressive in starting negotiations with a low ball offer. I know your specific situation is different but that's my been my experience.
You also state that your fiancé bought a house with this guy but don't mention selling with him, so any money he made has been through the seller, not your fiancé.
