If he was actually ejecting someone for arguing balls and strikes, it would have been Matt Williams immediately.

He definitely should have run Williams or who ever he was arguing with in the dugout going back to the previous batter. If he was going to take his his mask off and draw that much attention to the situation he has to toss them or the situation was going to get worse, and that's what happened.

With that being said, Harper wasn't ejected for stepping out of the box. I don't know how many times that needs to be said. The exchange at that point, and his antics (pointing at the box, tip toeing to the box or whatever he was doing) is why he was ejected.

He argued the call when it happened, stepped out and continued talking, stepped back in and continued talking, and then that's when the ump drew attention to himself and the dugout. You're better off making the argument that he was justified in showing up the ump because of how the umpire was acting than to pretend he was only tossed for stepping out.

The entire time Matt Williams is arguing on the field he keeps saying "you can't throw him out for being out of the box"

You think he just pulled that out of nowhere?

Hudson told Harper to get into the box, Harper yelled back that he was in the box, then walked over and pointed to where his foot was when Hudson started acting like a child.

If that's worthy of being tossed then frick the MLB.

Of course the ump is going to say it wasn't because he was out of the box, because the rules don't say you can toss him for that and he's trying to minimize his own damage.
