I was wondering when I retire from the military if I could get a ESH/HSE job off shore. Had a friend who left active duty as a Captain with an Econ degree is making good money working for Chevron doing safety. i have the degrees and several OSHA certs, CHSM, CSHS, OSHT and I am taking the ASP this fall.

It's called a Drilling Fluids Specialist now.

And I have no professional connection with this industry.

There are lots of jobs on rigs and lots of companies (operator, drilling contractor, service companies, catering, etc). If you have certs you'll probably have to redo them by the place the company uses. If you have a skill set of some sort they can place you in a related job (electronics, mechanic, IT, crane crew). If not your best bet is to start at roustabout and work your arse off to move up.

Check out Patterson UTI in Tyler, TX - Nabors in Tyler - H&P in Bullard, TX.

Those 3 companies have quite a few rigs running between East Texas and NELA.

The Arcadia/Ruston area is popping off pretty good right now. There are about 9 Patterson Rigs, 4 Nabors, 1 Ensign, 1 Big E and 1 Precision.

It is not looking to slow down in that area, so anyone looking for work, look in that direction.

No experience? You'll be starting as a BR hand in the catering department. At about $13/hour working 14/7. Contact Ensco. We need some new galley hands. They lost my GD socks last hitch. Good luck!

Actually it is exactly where you should be if you are starting out in the workplace. It's an industry that is going to come back eventually in a big way, if you get it now while everyone else is running away you will rise to the top when it comes back.
