Its difficult to "teach" bat speed. Much of it has to do with the players physical attributes at the core and legs.

Not to turn this into a pissing contest, but this is 100% inaccurate. Bat path, hand path, barrel turn, lower half, and pre contact extension, just to name a few, are all teachable, are all things that every hitting coach focuses on, and all affect bat speed a ton. However, while bat speed is great and all, a guy with 10 mph slower bat speed, but with better attack angles and bat angles will hit the ball further 9 out of 10 times.

I hate trying to speak for someone else but i don't think Jay denying there are techniques available to increase bat speed. I think he was saying there has to be a predisposition to speed already present.

I'm slow. Wasn't always the case but it clearly is today. I can probably run 100 meters in about 15 seconds. Have the best speed coaches in the country work with me for a year and maybe I will cut that time to 14.5 seconds. I didn't acquire speed and they didn't teach me speed. Their tecniques can improve but its difficult to create what is not there. I think that is what Jay was saying and I aologize to him for assuming to know his mind.
