It's a cup of hot coffee like many of us have gotten hundreds of times. He spilled it in his lap and is suing the company that gave it to him. It doesn't matter that it was free and it doesn't matter that he was a cop. It does make a nice shake your head story when you add those details though.

Did you watch the story about the woman who spilled coffee in her lap from McDonald's? Everyone laughed at the story but if you watch the documentary on it, her injuries were as severe as they were because McDonald's had the coffee way beyond regulation temperatures
