Focus on smaller things like the smeltery. I'll help if you want. Then the work stations that go with it (stencil table, stencil chest, part builder, tool station, tool forge).
Then use the tool forge to make a hammer. The hammer is helpful because it clears in a 3X3 area. So for every block you break, you get the surround 8 blocks as well (well not dirt, or gravel, or maybe obsidian).
If you need more info, Tinkers Construct Wiki
It has links toward the bottom for everything involved. The other benefit is that as tool wear, you can repair them with the same material (say, iron or steel) or you can also add a moss ball to allow for auto-repair (granted at a slow rate).
Well if you hold shift for sneaking, you can walk to the edge of a block and place another block. Once you get a rhythm going, it can go as fast as block every second or two. Then the main limitation is cobblestone supply, so I mined a few areas out along the route for additional materials (which explains the nerd poles up to the platform at some places). They are all in the sides of hills/mountains and lit up to not become mob spawning areas.

That was you? Man you built that fast. Thanks for it though it goes right by the oil and right to my house.
I like it. I was shocked how fast you were going. I fell down a hole to level 3 yesterday after moving a mining machine. I was stuck down there for thirty minutes with no way to get out until I found the hole (I wen looking for minerals and broke the only tool I had on me) When I got back to the surface you had passed my house and were by the spawn.
