yea I bring blocks of rock and wood. been stopping up holes of lava like crazy. layers 1-6 have been lava in every tunnel so far. swear I built on an active volcano. every direction I turn I run into lava pretty quick. didn't have this trouble in the home I made when I first started. of course that home was in more of a flat area and my current permanent residence is in the mountains.

I did find this video showing how to mine straight through lava that I'm gonna try. LINK

You might know this but emeralds are a dime a dozen in mountainous areas so don't sweat that one you lost
