Yeah, Polk was pushing hard for Tommy Raffo to get the job. When Cohen got it instead, Polk disassociated himself with their program completely. He knew that Cohen was a douche and didn't feel he was the man to properly represent the program he had built.

Godfather, you nailed it re Polk's dislike of Cohen, or at least several MSU fans have said the same in another link. Initially, it was more of Polk being pissed at MSU for not hiring his former coached, and then Cohen being Cohen, it morphed into an intense dislike of him by Polk. They've kissed and made up, at least on the surface, but Polk does not go out of his way to talk to/about Cohen any.

Polk's problem was he felt like he should have been able to name his successor....as he said at "I'm the AD of Baseball" which wasn't true as Greg Byrne was the AD (now at Arizona) and I believe had worked in the AD at UK prior to coming to State to be AD...it wasn't that he didn't like Cohen (quite opposite actually) it was at he said at the time "Cohen has a job, and I want my boy Raffo because if he isn't the guy p, he won't have a job".....Bryne hired who he thought was the best guy....Polk gets pissed and pops off about removing name etc....after dust settles and Byrne leaves to Arizona, fences are mended...he still lives in Starkville and is a volunteer coach at UAB
