No...I don't think it's dumb at all.
I think it's probably a bigger risk to play under a 4 year contract totaling 2.2 million with no guaranteed money when you can sit out a year and go no later than 2nd round next year.
CFL is always an option as well for $80 or $90K if need be.

If he plays in Canada, I think he loses his eligibility to be drafted.
