We don't have enough info to say the teacher handled it poorly. We have enough info to say the student should be suspended/disciplined.

Team Student here.

That sub was a dickhead and had no idea how to handle that situation. Unfortunately, when teachers can't be at work, we have to keep the babysitting going. Too many subs are unqualified to be in a classroom.

Should she have attacked him? No. But she's a kid and who knows what's going on in her life? And here's this adult antagonizing her over and over again asking her if she has a brain and telling her she's dirt and ultimately calling her a dumbass.

frick that guy.

frick it. This gives me a great idea.

Get some military guys into classrooms when they are on leave and have them be substitute teachers. And let them go to work on the problem kids.

Then, "darn, I'm fired".

Fix each problem kid at a time.

I mean I was a bad kid, disruptive, but never disrespectful.

There are certainly better ways to handle that as a teacher.

WTF? He called her a dumbass and threw water on her. I'd say it's pretty clear that he handled it poorly.

You seem to think that people are lined up around the block to be public school substitutes. In my experience, practically none do it for more than one school year.

The sub just got tired of dealing with all of those thugs. It's sad that he'll be fired/barred from teaching while the spoiled brat will suffer little to no consequences.

Yes, he handled it very poorly, especially by egging her on. You could tell he knew exactly how stupid and trashy she was, yet he kept pushing her. I'm surprised the dude didn't go old school on her arse and give her a knee lift to the face when they were tied up.

She would have sat down and STFU, or she'd have been removed from my class with quickness.
I couldn't do this at all, because there's no possible way I would tolerate this level of disrespect. Of course I got my arse whipped by teachers, and we knew they demanded respect.
Now the students can sue the damn teacher for making them sit in the corner. FUKKEDUP!

You serious. From everything I saw that girl should have had her mouth muffled with a bar of soap. There were three minutes left in class, old man teacher could not leave classroom, can't leave it unattended, liability. Not enough time for administration to get to classroom. We also don't know how long this guy took it from her before he started asking if she had a brain, she could have been spouting off the whole class for all we know. Frankly, she deserved the public shaming she was getting for what she was doing, old man was on his own and was trying to handle it the best he could, calling her out on her behavior.

Makes me feel good about our future. Conflict resolution in the future will be handled by these kids by sulking and pouting and saying F-You over and over until they flip out and start throwing things. Can't wait.

When they took away corporate punishment (paddling, etc.) they took all the power out of the teachers' hands and gave it to the students. Students can now talk to the teachers in whatever manner they want, because they know the teacher can do nothing about it except "write them up." Not to mention the majority of the parents who have the attitude of, "Nobody better lay a hand on my chile"
