Just talked briefly with a really good friend of mine tonight at base camp via his satellite phone. Over 60 bodies recovered and they are headed back up the ice falls to rescue climbers stuck in falls who are still alive. Ice bridges are mostly destroyed. Helis just started rescuing the injured. Sounds like he expects the death toll to increase even higher. I'm worried about him for PTS because he didn't sound good. Ice doctors left the mountain and will not return so it's up to remaining foreigners, military, and climbers to rescue those stranded or injured

And they just had the deadliest day last year. Looks like this one will make that one look tiny by comparison.

I don't mean to sound callous, but I hope resources aren't being taken away from the indigenous relief effort to rescue wealthy foreigners. It's an awful situation, but if you put yourself in a situation like that, you have to go into it knowing you put yourself in a high risk environment and if the rescue assets are needed elsewhere, you're on your own.

I guess your friend exaggerated a little on the number of recovered bodies or he said 16 and you heard 60. Reports are still at 17 confirmed.
