I don't get it. So he says he had the legs because somebody gave them to him for free? So how did it get out that he "stole" them?

Because if the grocery store employee gives you something and doesn't OK it with management, it's called stealing.

I have no clue how anyone didn't know this from the beginning. It was clear Publix was giving him free food. However, a new manager comes in that doesn't know the deal and then calls the cops. Fsu/Jameis have the choice of major ncaa infraction or legal slap on the wrist. Easy choice
