There's no reason why this team should be so bad defensively.

Has AD focused too much on his offensive game? Is he just not that court aware for the complex NBA schemes? Is it a Monty thing? Because Asik was pretty elite defensively before coming here and hasn't been that great.

Seeing as it is a team-wide issue, I'd say it completely sits on Monty's head. The whole team is horrible at defense, especially on the interior.

Asik plays well, but even he isn't anywhere near as strong a defender as he was while in Houston and his small minutes in Chicago.

It's both. AD is definitely having lapses and not playing to his potentail on defense. But a guy this athletic shouldn't be out so far from the rim...if you look at some of the metrics, he's far away from the basket more than he should be. Some of that could be contributed to his awareness, but some would definitely be on Monty IMO.
