I do suppose that $30/yr for "life after media center" is a fairly small price to pay.
It's a lot cheaper than Tivo and looks to be a lot more flexible than WMC for whole home DVR and mobile use.

It will be hard to walk away from WMC for it though.
I agree. As much as I complain about WMC, it really does get a lot right, especially with the help of programs like MyChannelLogos and GuideTool. If I can't hide and reorder my channels as I see fit, get rid of the stupid, space-wasting "HD" designators in the channel logos, and suppress the display of channel numbers to show just the logo, I'll be disappointed. Trivial as it sounds, this stuff does make a big difference.

How is guide data not crowd-sourced at this point? Am I missing something there?
It varies with region and provider and lineup, it has to be kept up to date, and it has to be reliable. That sounds like a full-time job to me. Even WMC's relationship with Zap2It is imperfect. It's not uncommon for there to be guide errors, and WMC can lag schedule changes that appear on Zap2It's web site. No idea how much it costs Microsoft. My understanding is that WMC will NOT be in Windows 10.

They're almost at $40 K after two days, with the 30 day target being $100 K.
