No, they just absolutely should not have split up the last season. All momentum was lost. What a terrible decision that has torpedoed the end of an incredible show.

My confusion at this point is if the episodes would have been differently written without the split? I mean, did AMC just hold the episodes back? Regardless, the pacing has seemed disjointed at times compared to the rest of the series.

It's like a new series in many respects, but one I'm not enjoying as much.

I tend to agree. If they wanted to extend the show, they should have just gone with another full season which would have been fine by me. Hell, Sally is no blossoming into a beautiful young lady. There is plenty of history remaining into the 60's and hell into the 70's.
