My kids come first but I wouldn't hesitate to buy my mom a laptop. As others have said, the fact that all 6 of them won't, makes me think there's more to it.

Well the mom hates one of the wives with a passion because she feels as if she was going to stop a from following his dream.

I forgot that one son was a surgical resident, and was burnt out towards the end of his residency. He had life long dreams of specializing but fatigue and priorities (a baby on the way and a fiancé) he was having some second thoughts about pursing his goal. His now wife didn't want him to specialize and she wanted him to start working to support the family.

Well his mom was livid. She couldn't believe how she could sway him or convince him to not carry out his dreams he had be working his whole life for. She saw this as a red flag and didn't think she was a good fit to marry her son at this point. Her son was already granted a year sabbatical and was on the verge of making some important career decisions.

Well the son goes ahead and had has a civil union with his now wife before the church ceremony and his mom refused to show up. In fact, she actually threw a bit of scene outside the courthouse

Fast forward to the wedding. The boys don't have many extended family members at the church wedding, so seating at the reception shouldn't be too hard. Well the wife seats the mom all the way in the back of the wedding reception dinner away from her family. It was pretty ducking rude.

And to top it off, her son was supposed to pay for his moms hotel room at the wedding, but he and the wife dipped to go on their honey moon before paying for his moms hotel room, leaving her to foot the bill herself
