I get why they didn't do it, but it made absolutely no sense storywise for Brienne to not tell Sansa that Arya is alive. She is trying to get her to trust her and Sansa thinks Arya is dead, so why would she not mention that?

Probably because Littlefinger was sitting there with too many eyes and ears.
