I know... I know...

I want an inground pool but the chance of relocation looms over me in the future, so I don't want to invest 40k, plus limit the people who would want to buy my house down the road. The thought entered my mind to do a half in ground for minimal cost and I can always pull it out if need be.

Thoughts? Yes I know? Cost?

You could only improve upon this idea by putting it in your front yard.

Right next to the camaro on cinder blocks.

Why even bother putting it half in the ground? You'd still have to get the hole dug, taking it out if you're selling your house would be a pain in the arse, and then you'd be left with a big arse ugly hole in the ground to deal with.

And it's not like it would look much "nicer" half submerged.

I just bought an above ground 24'. they cannot yet come set it up due to the massive amounts of rain though. I don't want to burry half because I don't trust anything staying underground and "lasting". that's just me.

How many "project" vehicles do you have in your front yard?

Parents did this. Its sunk about a foot into the ground. They couldnt do a in ground pool because there is an old one buried in the backyard so digging would be expensive. Turns out to be a good idea and no one can see you over the fence on the deck that was built around it.

My wife worked at a pool store. This is a common practice but you need a pool rated for this and, most importantly, you must know the proper method of installation. They last as long as normal above ground installation if done correctly.

I bought a house with a pool.....But I am pretty sure you can get a decent pool for less than $40k especially if the alternative is a large cattle trough.

Your HOA probably won't let you do an above ground pool anyways.
