So does this mean I lose my unlimited? Is this what they came up with to get me off of my unlimited plan?

No you will not lose your unlimited...
I have unlimited and signed up for the next plan today.
They said eventually in the near future if you don't get on next and want to keep your unlimited, the only option you have is to buy the phone outright every two years.
