I wouldn't doubt that they are. I got towed from my own paid for/assigned spot in college and they had the balls to tell me the person that was renting that spot form the apartment complex had called them to move the car. Not only did they claim the person was there with proof, they said the apartment complex had a person out there to verify it. Both were lies (b/c I called to ask people at the place I lived) and it took threatening to bring the cops out for them to relent and give me my car back. They then admitted what probably happened was that the driver was just going through the lot and was taking cars that he thought didn't have the tag that proved you could park there. Mine was hanging in the dash and had twisted slightly sideways so you would have had to walk around the side to see it. They claimed that was all they needed to decide it was ok to tow me. (again, a lie b/c you have to get out of the damn truck to make sure on stuff like that)

It is called Predatory Towing or as the law says "non-consensual towing." In Baton Rouge it is Riverside Towing and they are as low as whale sh it on the bottom of the ocean. I thought Ms Brit's tantrum was pretty shitty because it was that "do you know who I am" crap. These businesses however make you so mad you will say and do almost anything.
I had to deal with them once when my daughters car was towed. When we went to claim the car I witnessed almost the same tirade over and over from each victim. She was calm by the standards I have seen. That is why they have armed guards at the claim yard. And the towing company's response to this is "if you don't settle down we will just keep your car a few more days and you will owe us more money."
Riverside Towing yanked my 19 yr old daughter's car from an apartment complex at 1 AM in the morning on River Road in Baton Rouge. The parking lot was half empty and she was only picking up someone and therefore did not park in a Visitor spot. The person she as looking for has already left and was not there. She was not there for ten minutes. Riverside picked her car and left a 19 yr old girl standing in a parking lot at 1AM with no money, no purse, and just keys in her hands. If I would have had a baseball bat I would have beat them senseless.
Now, lets be clear, the law is on their side but they have no morals at all.
